The Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) offers a Dedicated Telephone Service (DTS) that connects experienced CRA officers with small and medium income tax service providers across Canada.

The DTS is designed to help you better understand the different provisions of the Income Tax Act. You can get free technical help, in both English and French, simply by registering for this service.

Here’s how it works:

  • Fill out and submit a completed DTS registration form.
  • Once registered, you will receive our telephone number and an exclusive access code.
  • When you call into the service, an officer from the Income Tax Rulings Directorate will research your tax question.
  • The officer will provide you with relevant CRA guidance and technical information within three business days, depending on the complexity of the tax issue.

While the DTS is a valuable technical resource to help resolve your interpretive tax issues, it does not provide access to individual taxpayers’ accounts.

Please visit the DTS web page for further information about the service, including eligibility criteria and more details on how the service can help you.
